ok, i admit it...
with every brand of makeup coming up with their own versions of mineral foundation i was getting pretty curious...
So i went to the source, Bare Escentuals and their bare mineral line... I really didn't think a powder was for me. I have dry skin that breaksout easily and need lots of coverage...
Well i'll be dammed... this stuff really works!!!
I've been using the foundation for a week now and i am totally sold... I went back to buy the started kit (totally worth it for all the brushes) and i hate that i have nowhere to go today and no excuse to put makeup on :(
I tossed my liquide foundation, my concealer, my little green stuff for blemishes and my face powder!
and you know what? My skin is looking better than ever, no breakouts, it even dried up one huge pimple during the day!!!!
Don't walk... RUN!!!!
it is the best 100$ you will ever spend...

Re: Bare Escentuals
Fri, September 1, 2006 - 6:27 AMMineral foundations, like all foundations, are not for everyone. Typically, those with oily skin have problems with mineral makeups where after a couple hours the makeup pools in pores, creases and generally slides everywhere and looks frightening. It took me three different mineral makeups to figure that out, then I did some research and found that most folks with my skin type had the same issues. Total bummer. Now I use it for cover up, and it really does work well for that in very small areas for me. -

Re: Bare Escentuals
Fri, September 1, 2006 - 11:57 PMI have mostly normal to dry with t-zone oily skin and I tried the some of the Bare Minerals. I thought it was pretty nice, the feel was great and it looked very natural but maybe I didn't have the right ones (or the right brushes) because I didn't get enough coverage, (I have a couple scars and "problem areas"). Every time I see that infomercial I want to get all their products, though.
For about the last two years I have been using the Physicians Formula "Mineral" powder. You can get it at any drug store. I decided to try it because I had a good experience with the bare minerals and thought it would be a cheaper alternative, and easier to find. If you use a brush it has pretty good coverage, and you can dust it over foundation. If you use a dry sponge it's super coverage, and you might not even need foundation. It's like a "thick" powder. It reminded me of Sebastian make-up powders, (which I used to love,) but it doesn't feel "gluey" or get all greasy looking and settle into lines after a couple of hours like the Sebastian.

Re: Bare Escentuals
Mon, September 4, 2006 - 11:01 AMI agree. Bare Escentials does not work well for those with oily skin. That has been my experience with it- it did not cover well and did not stay on for very long. At this point I haven't tried any other mineral foundations/powders so it may be that other brands work better with oily skin. I recently found a mineral makeup company online called Larenim. they claim their products conatain "no bismuth oxychloride which is responsible for the greasy, big pored look and the rashes that dissuade many people from continuing using other mineral makeups." so perhaps there is hope for covering oily skin! The other bonus is that Larenim offers a goth mineral foundation in white, which I've never seen anywhere else.

Re: Bare Escentuals
Wed, January 24, 2007 - 5:03 PMI love bare Escentuals, I really really do, But I find that:
A. the coverage is par
b you can get a little thick with the application, too quickly!
c. The colors are, well, how does one put it... DEAD.
Thats why they push that damn warmth crap! But I don't want a bronzer! Oh I see I have to use it or I look like slate.... bare slate!
No I use either Pout, OR tart tinted moisterizers. Fantastic, light, beautiful colors.
a MAC concealer pencil for "bad days", and bare Escentuals shimmer powder!
Not glittery or too pearl gives a good "glow" thats not too.... gentlemans club!
also the shadows, and lip goss by bare Escentuals are very very good.
and Mineral Veil is flat out the best Powder, sheer, translucent and what have you!
but be sure to get the regular... the new kind has "sparkle" and I like sparkle, but not for my 9-5!
